Kannon is a Buddist representation of Compassion, Peace and Mercy.  She is also highly associated with children and motherhood.  In one hand she holds a lotus flower, in the other a willow branch.  The lotus is symbolic of compassion, purity of heart and love.  The willow branch is symbolic of easing distress.
